Hargeisa – (QN24) – 35 Girls Released From Gabiley Central Prison For Holding The Somali Flag On 26 June Have Been Released From Gabiley Central Prison.

The Girls, Who Were Arrested In Borama, The Regional Capital Of Awdal Region, Were Detained For 22 Days In Gabiley Prison On Charges Of Taking And Wearing The Somali Flag, Which Is A Crime Against Somaliland.

Somaliland Human Rights Groups have repeatedly called for their release, most recently the Somaliland Independent Human Rights Center, which called on the Government to release the Girls.

The girls have not been arraigned since June 26 in Borama, Awdal region, when most of them were Immediately Transferred To Gabiley Prison.

A Total Of 42 People Have Been Arrested In Awdal Region For Carrying The Somali Flag, 35 Of Whom Are Being Held In Gabiley Prison While Seven Others Are Being Held In Borama Jail.
