Istanbul – (QN24) – An Earthquake With A Magnitude Of 6.1 Hit The Northwest Of Turkey In The Early Hours Of Wednesday And At Least 35 People Were Injured.

The Earthquake Occurred About 170 Kilometers (105 Miles) East Of Istanbul, The Country’s Largest City, Where It Was Felt Strongly.

Turkish Officials Said The Quake Was 5.9 — Lower Than The 6.1 Estimate Given By The US Geological Survey.

It Happened in Golyaka District Of Duzce Region, Although It Also Shook Other Nearby Towns.

“We Woke Up To A Big Noise And Shaking,” Duzce Resident Fatma Colak Told AFP.

“We Came Out Of Our Houses In Panic. Now We Are Outside.” She Added.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca Tweeted That 35 People Were Injured, 32 Of Them In Duzce District, One In Istanbul And The Other Two In The Nearby Provinces Of Bolu And Zonguldak.

Turkey is One Of The Most Earthquake Prone Areas In The World.

Duzce Was The Site oO A 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake In 1999 – Turkey’s Deadliest In Decades.

The Earthquake Killed More than 17 Thousand People, Including Nearly A Thousand People Who Died In Istanbul.
